Sharp-Cutoff Pentode
The 5654W vacuum tube is a miniature type used in RF and
IF broad-band applications at frequencies up to 400 MHz.
They Require a miniature 7-contact socket.
5654 and 5654W are similar in sound.
With more burn in of the 5654, differences melt down. The 5654 is a bit brighter, which goes along
with a little less bass extension.
Designs using the 6J1 / 6J1-J tube have recently become very
popular in Asian made condenser microphones, especially
the CAD Trion 8000, as well as the new crop of low cost,
high quality Chinese preamps such as the Douk D2 and Little Bear P5-1.
They are also used in many Chinese manufactured Recording
Microphones. The Shanghai ShuaiYin factory; for example,
has SYT-2000 and SYT-3000 mics that use them.
These 6J1 / 6J1-J vacuum tubes were produced in China during
the 1970's. 6J1 is a Chinese tube, whereas 6J1P is a Russian tube. They are considered equivalents,
but the range is not exactly the same. As compared to the 6J1, the 6J1P is of a superior build and sound quality.
For a very much higher quality tube, use an American 5654W military tube.
