Beam Power Pentode
Phillips Gray Plate ~ Made in West Germany in the 1960's
and 70's.
The Philips 6L6GC Grey Plate Vacuum Tube is a glass-octal
type used in the output stage of audio
amplifying equipment, especially units designed to
have ample reserve of power-delivering ability. They
require an octal socket. This tube, like other
power-handling tubes, should be adequately ventilated.
The 6L6GC Vacuum Tube can be mounted in
any position.
The 6L6GC tube is the newer version of the 6L6 family of
tubes. It was manufactured to meet the demands of
public address and musical instrument amps, as well as
high fidelity equipment. It's a true heavyweight, with
500 volt at 30 watt plate ratings, and 450 volt at 5
watt screen specs! This tube will replace virtually any
of the other 6L6 tube types. These are found in straight
sided glass packages, and most are no older than the
late 1950s as this tube has not been around all that
long. This is the only type being currently made today.
But, caution is advised if your amp puts out nearly the
maximum voltage on the plate or screen as some of the
modern tubes or New Issue tubes may arc over and burn
out. You may find that only NOS ( New Old Stock )
versions will work in your amp. The most desirable of
these tubes is probably the RCA blackplate, which was
only produced until the later 1960s, however other NOS
greyplate USA made versions are excellent and still
available.
Many amps used the Philips 6L6GC tube, including but
not
exclusively, Ampeg B15, Carr Rambler, Elekit, EICO HF20,
Emery, Fender, Fender Showman, Fender Super-Sonic,
Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, Landgraff Deluxe, Leben,
MacIntosh MC240, Mesa 400, Mesa Boogie Mark IIC+,
Peavey Valveking VK112, Swart, THD Amplifiers, Two Rock
and Univox U2015.
